Some Drink Pink
Prologue: "There's only one word to remember if you are thinking of serving a pink wine to a serious wine drinking crowd: DON'T!"
...by Jack Mingo in his "The Wannabe Guide to Wine"
The Rest of the Story: OK, so connoisseurs don't drink a pink wine like White Zinfandel, but SOMEBODY does. Last year California White Zinfandel sales exceeded the connoisseurs' favorite, Cabernet Sauvignon, by 18 million cases to 10 million.
What style of White Zinfandel is most popular? The novices in my classes want a tad of sweetness with some light berry flavors. They want a distinct pink, not an orange-pink...and they want the price to be well under $8. Here's one they liked a lot.
Barefoot "White Zin"
Postscript: One suspects Jack Mingo is somewhat of a connoisseur himself. For example, on the proper service of wine he advises that it takes a bit more than using glasses that all have the same picture of Snoopy on their sides. To order the $9.95 book, phone (510) 595-0595.
