![]() by Fred McMillin for April 2, 1997 The Blush Gold Rush Prologue: "More than 10 million cases of white Zinfandel are made each year"...by Prof. John Baxevanis in "The Wine Regions of America" The Rest of the Story: Light pink (blush) wines sell. In fact, California blush sales exceeded total red wine sales the last time I checked. So, it's hardly suprising that the new line of Blossom Hill wines includes a White Zin. It was made by Fresno State microbiology grad Carol Thorup, who two decades ago took a summer job as a winery lab technician. She fell in love with winemaking then, and her unflagging enthusiasm shows in this blush... attractive color, attractive sugar-acid balance, and a very attractive price, $4. She has carefully crafted seven new wines and I'll bet this one outsells the others. Stay tuned.
