![]() by Fred McMillin for March 6, 1997 The Beckstoffer Connection Prologue: "Guenoc makes a great Cabernet from Andy Beckstoffer's St. Helena Vineyard IV"... from James Laube's "California Wine." The Rest of the Story: Andy and I have something in common. I studied engineering at the University of Washington, was stationed by the Navy at San Francisco's Treasure Island, and wound up making words about wine. Andy studied engineering at Virginia Tech, was stationed by the Army at San Francisco's Presido, and wound up making grapes for wine. That's MY Beckstoffer connection, but Guenoc's is much more important. This is the tenth year the winery has been purchasing Andy's purple gems to produce a huge red. Their latest Beckstoffer IV, the '93, is typical.. maximum intensity from 100% Cab, 100% new French oak, no filtering, etc. The theater manager says the 900-pound gorilla may sit any place he wishes. This Cab can have any seat in the house, too!
1993 Cabernet Sauvignon, Beckstoffer Vineyard IV, Napa Valley Category: Highly Recommended; even better after some time in your cellar.
