Our Wine Super Bowl!

Napa and Sonoma clashed in our Super Bowl battle. Each quarter there were three entries from each district, with some big names like Corison, Gary Farrell, Grgich, etc.

Here's the kickoff!

 

First Quarter

All White Wines

Sonoma won this quarter by 6 points with these entries:

• Chardonnay, Gallo Family Vineyards,Sonoma County, 2007, $15
• Sauvignon Blanc-Musque, Dry Creek Vineyards, 2006, $25
• Chardonnay, Hansell Vineyards, Sonoma Valley, 2005, $55

 

Second Quarter

Sparkler and Pinot Noir

Napa won this quarter by 3 points with these entries:

• NV Brut Rosé, Domaine Carneros, Napa Valley, NV, $36
• Zinfandel, Peju Province, Napa Valley, 2006, $28
• Zinfandel, Grgich Hills Estate, Napa Valley, 2006, $35

 

Half Time

Sonoma leads 6 to 3.

 

Third Quarter

Merlot

Sonoma won this quarter by 3 points with these entries:

• Merlot, Frick Winery, Dry Creek Valley, 2004, $12
• Merlot-Reserve, Kenwood Vineyards, Sonoma County, 2005, $25
• Merlot, Gallo Family, Sonoma County, 2006, $15

 

Fourth Quarter

Cabernet Sauvignon and Blends

Napa won this quarter by 7 points with these entries:

• Insignia, J. Phelps Vineyards, Napa Valley, 2005, $200
• Cabernet Sauvignon, J.Davies (Schramsberg), 2005, $75
• Cabernet Sauvignon, Corison Winery, Napa Valley, 2005, $70

 

The Super Bowl Winnah Is

Napa 10 To 9!

 

And a Final Wine Smile

Reuters reports that a Chinese billionaire paid $500,000 for 27 bottles of decades-old Romanee Conti (Burgundy). This reminds me of Mae West's comment, "I've been rich and I've been poor. Rich is better!"
