by Beth Hensperger and Julie Kaufmann
After a busy holiday season of extravagant entertaining, preparing big dinners for the extended family, and nibbling far too much finger food at cocktail parties, people everywhere are eager to begin the New Year with a return to simple home cooking. Beth Hensperger and Julie Kaufmann make the return easy with Not Your Mother's Slow Cooker Cookbook, a comprehensive collection of 300 exciting recipes that takes a new look at cooking with America's favorite appliance. Although cooks today still love the unbeatable convenience and practicality of the slow cooker, they are hungry for recipes that rely on the wholesome ingredients and fresh flavors of the modern kitchen rather than the canned convenience foods of the past. Hensperger and Kaufmann's book helps a new generation of families return to home cooked meals at the end of their busy days.
Inspired by the homey legacy of slow cooker classics as well as the savory flavors of cuisines around the world, these well-tested recipes include breakfasts, soups, sides, chilis, sauces, breads, main dishes, and desserts. Hensperger and Kaufmann offer multiple versions of tried-and-true favorites like meatloaf (Old-Fashioned Meatloaf, Fresh Chile and Corn Chip Meatloaf), as well as an array of traditionally slow-cooked international comfort foods (Italian White Beans with Pancetta, Japanese Soup with Mushrooms and Tofu). There are dishes perfect for casual dinners with the family (Lazy Day Braised Pot Roast) or elegant entertaining (Victoria's Lamb Shanks Braised with Garlic, Fresh Rosemary, and White Wine).
Beginning with up-to-date information on the basics of slow cooking and sprinkled throughout with tips on the simple steps that make a big difference in flavor, this book showcases slow cooking without compromising on taste, quality, or variety. Not Your Mother's Slow Cooker Cookbook will inspire you to get adventurous with your slow cooker and create diverse and satisfying meals every day of the week.
