Makes two 9-inch pies
Bottom:
1 egg
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 cup cold water
1-1/2 cups molasses
Top:
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup butter
3 cups flour
1 cup molasses
1 cup hot water
1 tsp. baking soda
Mix bottom ingredients and divide equally into two 9-inch unbaked pie shells. Cream sugar and butter for top part and add flour to make crumbs. Measure and set aside one cup of crumbs. Add molasses, water and baking soda to the remaining crumbs. Mix well and evenly distribute over the pie shells. Sprinkle one cup reserved crumbs on top. Bake at 350 degrees F. for 35 to 45 minutes or until top bounces back to touch.
