1B Before: The old kitchen's south wall, with cooktop, sink, dishwasher, and raw wood cabinets.

9B After: Same wall today, with ClimateZone refrigerator, 3 tall pantry cabinets and a walk-in utility closet at end (not shown). A soffit was added to create a clean, uniform look, especially where the crown molding meets it.

1C Before: The north wall of the old kitchen.

9C After: Two more tall cabinets run floor to ceiling; both contain electrical outlets for small appliances, which pull out for use on roll-out trays. The 5-foot countertop actually sits 2 inches lower than normal height, for easier pastry work. The interior cabinets with glass doors contain small halogen lights on dimmers.
