I Love Chocolate

Father's Day and Other Celebrations

Sorbet and Custard'Tis the season when the thermometer climbs. If there's no cooling system where you live, do your baking early in the morning or in the evening; in any case, only one of the recipes in this edition calls for your oven to be on longer than 15 minutes. Brunches, picnics, and gatherings of all kinds abound this month, so be ready with something chocolate. Let's get into the kitchen! and Happy Father's Day to all the Dads out there.

Chocolate Find of the Month:

Not all sorbets are created equal! Sharon's Sorbet and Custard stands out among the crowd for the excellence of their ingredients, their ultra-smooth texture, and devotion to the quality of what they make. Only natural products are used in these sorbets and custards, including organic sugar. No corn sweeteners, color enhancers of any kind, nor flavor essences are employed here; this results in a very clean, pure taste that's not too sweet, and a completely natural color, and isn't that the way food should be? Besides all of this, the frozen delights from Sharon's Sorbet and Custard have supremely smooth textures that I just don't find everywhere. Their website is http://www.sharons-sorbet.com/.

The sorbet is produced in seven flavors, including a very chocolatey Dutch chocolate, a fabulous coconut, and a super raspberry (I have a carton of the latter in my freezer as I write this). The custards, which are really frozen crème brulees, come in four flavors: chocolate, vanilla, raspberry (vanilla-based with a swirled-in raspberry sauce), and chocolate chip. Sharon's Sorbet and Custard is easiest to find on the East Coast of the US; if you can't find it where you live, e-mail the company and see if you can work something out (they've sent sorbet--successfully—as far as Japan and Korea). I wish I knew how to convey some of the admiration I have for this company's philosophy toward their desserts in two paragraphs, but try one of their creations and see if it doesn't speak for itself more eloquently than I could!

I Love Chocolate wants YOU!!! Do you have a comment, question, or suggestion? How about a recent chocolate "find" you'd like to share? You can contact me at: sdziadwm@[email-address-removed]; I'd like your input on this column. Thanks!

'Till next month,
Yours in chocolate,
Stephanie
