| Soup of the Evening http://www.geocities.com/NapaValley/6188/hpsoup.html Review by Debbie Mazo
Devoted to the joys of soup, Soup of the Evening offers a lighthearted look at this timeless broth. To make it even more interesting, the site is full of literary references and historical insights. In Food Tales, visitors can check out quotations and interesting facts related to their favorite soup ingredient. For example, if your favorite soup is a Potage Parmentier, check out the Potatoes link in Food Tales. Here you'll find a Thomas Hardy quote on potatoes, as well as the history of potatoes from its place in the Irish diet to its surprisingly difficult spelling for a recent Vice President. The site, organized by soup category, has a rich and tempting collection of soup recipes. In Soup as a Meal, you'll find bouillabaisse and borscht recipes while Occasional Soups includes soup recipes for special events such as an Italian wedding soup. If you're a vegetarian, Strictly Vegetable will open up your vegetable horizons with unique offerings such as Lime-Cucumber Soup with a Kick and Creamy Artichoke Soup with Lemony Mushrooms. There's also a selection of soup recipes using meat, seafood, and fowl as the main ingredient. To complete the site, there's even a recipe for Chicken Soup and Matzo Balls, "guaranteed to make you well" from an authentic Jewish grandmother. Although notoriously taken for granted, soup touches the heart of us all. In the musical words of Ludwig van Beethoven, "Whoever tells a lie cannot be pure in heart--and only the pure in heart can make good soup."
