Sometimes it seems daunting to try to get your five fruits and vegetables
each day. It helps to know the benefits of giving your diet this extra
fiber- and vitamin-rich boost. The Fruit and Vegetable Nutrition Center
brought to you by Dole (of the pineapple) is a wonderful source for
information about the health benefits of eating as much as you can from
orchard and vegetable patch.
Did you know that 8 medium strawberries give you 130 percent of the
recommended daily allowance for vitamin C? Did you have any inkling that a
sweet potato provides 440 percent of the RDA for vitamin A while having
zero calories from fat? and what about fiber? Sometimes there is not
enough time for that morning bowl of cereal. Other sources of the fiber we
need in our diets include: apples, beans, broccoli, peas, grapefruit,
spinach and many more. Eating just one of the many fruits and vegetables
listed will add an additional 20 percent of the Daily Value for fiber to
your diet.
Smoking, alcohol and diet are the three most important personal habits that
influence health according to the U.S. Surgeon General. For the two out of
three of us that do not smoke or drink heavily, diet is the most important
factor in our health that we can control. It helps to know what your body
needs and how you can get and this site is a great place to start.
