I couldn't help myself. As the New Year approaches and folks are planning their New Years fesitivities I just had to find a site that offered a recipe for cooking up the perfect batch of blackeyed peas. In the South blackeyed peas are eaten on New Years to bring good luck in the year ahead. But if store shelves around the country are any indicator, folks virtually everywhere are buying into the tradition. So stock up now!

Regardless of why you eat them, the beans alone are always good for you. How you fix them is another story. At The Big Texan Steak Ranch in Amarillo, TX they make them the way I grew up having them...SPICY! A zippy combination of jalape-os and green chilies make for a eye-opening punch in the wee hours of New Year's morning. Make them as rich and meaty as you like by adding a ham hock or fatback or lighten them up by elimanating all oils. The point here is to just eat them!! I hope they bring you good luck and a new tradition!
