Emergency Call
Ever had a sweet tooth but were too lazy to go to the store? Or perhaps you and your mate wanted a bit of late-night decadence? Well, if you're in London, all you have to do is dial 0181 694-1212 and then grab a spoon. Within an hour, a leather-clad courier will deliver a carton of Haagen Dazs ice cream directly to your door. As part of an ad campaign in which HD equates ice cream with pleasure, the featured flavor is Chocolate Midnight Cookie. Even taxicabs bear placards saying "Do you really want to go back for coffee or do you want something more?" The 'something more' in this case costs the equivalent of $7.50 US dollars.
For years, the milk industry was exempt from adhering to certain low-fat labeling laws. Not any more. The FDA says "low fat" applies to foods with 3 or less fat grams per serving. Until now, 2% milk could be called low fat, despite having 5 grams of fat per serving. It will now be called "reduced fat milk." Milk with 1% fat qualifies as "low fat" as it has only 2.5 fat grams. Whole milk is unchanged at 8 grams of fat per serving. These same rules, which apply to cottage cheese and other milk products, should help clear up the misconception that "2%" milk is 98% fat free—when in fact it is far from it.
