What's it all add up to? 570 calories, 31 grams fat, 11 grams sat fat, 1110 mg sodium—without the bacon. More than a Big Mac, more than a Quarter Pounder and certainly more than the McLean Deluxe, which was wiped from the menu to make room for the Arch (along with some salads).
Needless to say, the Arch got a heavy thumbs-down in the September issue of the Nutrition Action Newsletter, published by those perpetually vocal watchdogs at the Center for Science in the Public Interest. One thing in McD's favor: at least they've never claimed the Arch to be "healthy" or low-fat. Then they'd really be in trouble!
Perhaps the Rialto in Cambridge saw the same ad. Their recent bar renovation followed the face-lift theme, sending postcards out of such famous firm-faced beauties as Liz Taylor, Joan Crawford and Bette Davis (whose characteristic cheekbones do resemble mini-moguls). On re-opening night, uplifting facials were raffled off and the new bar menu debuted with drinks named "Nip and Tuck," "Dick Clark," and what else? "The Face Lift," of course.
Which reminds us of the old Phyllis Diller joke about the woman who had so many face-lifts you needed a ladder to reach her. Hah!!!
