Another "No Flame, No Fire" Recipe
by Kate Heyhoe
We call this our favorite "Desert Dessert." Dates are actually sweet fruits that grow high in the palm trees of the hot, dry Middle Eastern deserts. Africa and California also produce these succulent morsels, which come in many flavorful varieties. Some of the best are the Medjool and Barhi types.
You can buy pre-chopped dates, or you can chop your own from whole pitted ones. A blender or food processor works fine, but if chopping by hand, sprinkle a bit of powdered sugar on the date bits to keep them from sticking together.
This is an incredibly simple recipe that is super-refreshing. It takes only a few whirls in the blender and voila! a cold, frothy snack to refresh everyone from weekend warriors to after-school athletes. For a post-practice pick-me-up, make it in batches for the whole team! You'll be an instant hit.
Ingredients:
Place all ingredients in blender and process until dates are completely blended with the other ingredients. Pour into a tall, chilled glass and serve immediately.
