Ian Makay, author of the book Food for Thought: Being a Compendium of Culinary Quips, Quotes, Anecdotes, Facts, & Recipes by the Great and Not-So-Great, is, among other less savory things, a writer and chatroom host for the award winning e-zine The electronic Gourmet Guide (a.k.a., The eGG) and has been featured on the TV Food Network's Food News & Views. An accomplished author and editor, Ian Makay has had 13 books published and has written for Newsweek, Inflight Magazine and others. "Mak", as he is known by friends, has also worked as a publisher, an educator, a consultant, a curriculum developer, and, in less sane moments, a stand-up comic. He has served both the local and national communities as a long-time volunteer, consultant, and administrator for a diverse array of nonprofit and charitable organizations.
Born in New York City, Mak grew up and still lives on Long Island, currently residing in Sayville with his wife and son.
Stuffed with insight and humor, and garnished with a smattering of unique recipes, Mak's latest book Food for Thought is a portable compendium of culinary wit for every gourmet, gourmand, and epicure; for every dieter and fitness fanatic; for every traveler and restaurateur; for everyone who eats or cooks—whether devotees of grandmother's kitchen or graduates of The Culinary Institute of America.
Excerpts from Food For Thought:
"I was 32 when I started cooking; up until then, I just ate." —Julia Child
"The perfect lover is one who turns into a pizza at 4:00 a.m." —Charles Pierce
"A nickel will get you on the subway, but garlic will get you a seat." —New York Yiddish proverb
"Everything you see I owe to spaghetti." —Sophia Loren
