Review by Debbie Mazo

Most of the attention given to the Y2K problem has focused on faulty equipment, rather than Y2K preparation in the home. Although many experts believe there's nothing to worry about, it never hurts to be prepared. If you'd rather be safe than sorry, check out Y2K Kitchen full of handy tips to safely bring your pantry into the new millennium.

Hosted by a computer programmer who is also the family cook, this no-frills site promises to answer the question, "what food do I buy and what do I do with it". As you probably already stock most pantry basics, Y2K Kitchen demonstrates that simple rethinking of the way you prepare some of your favorites and purchasing substitutions goes a long way.

Y2K Kitchen The standard recommendation on Y2K preparation is to buy what you eat and eat what you buy. For food shopping tips, browse the Shopping Storing section where you'll also find a shopping list for picking up the essentials. You can also check out the advice for storing your food stash including cans and dry food such as flour, rice, and sugar. For example, use zip lock bags for storing rice and then place them in tubs or jars for safekeeping.

Y2K cooking may seem challenging because preparation doesn't rely on standard electricity or natural gas. However, there's no reason why you can't modify traditional recipes. Featuring old favorites, the recipes at Y2K kitchen use canned or convenience foods for quick preparation. For a main dish, try the Corned Beef Hash complete with canned potatoes or the Baked Bean Crown Roast featuring canned Vienna sausages or packaged hot dogs. Or, satisfy your sweet tooth with some Skillet Brownies or Carrot Cake.

Still confused about the Y2K crisis? Y2K Kitchen has plenty of information to help you get educated quickly on the necessity for individual and community preparedness. While you still have time, take the Y2K test to reveal early on whether your plans include any flaws. Whether you're a skeptic or believer, you'll face Y2K fallout with ease when you stop by Y2K Kitchen.
