Soda Fountain

Review by Debbie Mazo

Movie stars were discovered while sitting around them. Teenagers growing up in the 40's and 50's spent countless hours sipping a malted milk made from one of these. If you can remember the days of the soda jerk, you'll enjoy the sights, sounds, and tastes served up at the Soda Fountain.

The Soda Fountain Originally invented for selling mineral water by the glass, the original soda fountain was a beer keg looking device with the first patent granted in 1819. In Soda Fountain History, read up on the story of the soda fountain from the pioneers who launched the soda fountain industry to the calls or orders used in soda fountains (if you hear your waitress yell, "jerk a bridge through Georgia", she's actually sending in your table's order for four chocolate sodas).

If you've always wanted to make your own soft drinks or floats, there's plenty of recipes to try. At the Soda Fountain, you'll find out how to make the syrups for soft-drinks like root beer, ginger ale, cherry soda, and many more. There's also some great recipes for homemade ice creams, and instructions on preparing milkshakes, floats, and other soda fountain fare with some of the recipes dating as far back as 1866. The site even reveals the authentic secret formula to the original Coca-Cola. Coca-Cola

Now that your nostalgia's kicked in, relive the memories by checking out some of the vintage photos in the Pictures section. Or, get on the Soda Fountain Soap Box and share your love of the soda fountain with others in this online forum.

At the Soda Fountain, there's always plenty to drink so grab a couple of straws and enjoy your visit down memory lane.
