Review by Debbie Mazo A favorite around the globe, Italian food has endured for many years as the top choice among ethnic cuisine. If you've always wanted to discover the secrets of old world cooking, then Mama's Cucina is for you. Sponsored by Ragu, this well-presented site is a virtual gold mine of resources for Italian cooking addicts. A visit to Mama's Cucina is always entertaining because there's so much to explore. You'll probably find Mama in the kitchen, so start by clicking on the Kitchen link. Here you'll find Mama's Cookbook with everything from Aoli with Fresh Vegetables to Double-filled Mushroom Pizza to Chocolate Amaretti Pie. If you don't know your cannelloni from your manicotti, check out the Pasta Glossary for a brief description explaining the subtle differences. There's also a Cooking Glossary where you can find out what al dente really means: perfectly cooked pasta with a slight chewiness. Easy to navigate, this site offers more than your standard recipe lineup. Take a tour of Italy and come back with a few secrets. In the Mama's Favorite Places section, you can click on a city, get information about what the city is like, what the local cuisine is, even discover suggestions about great places to eat. If you love cheese, check out Mama's Cheese Sauces. While you're preparing your Roasted Garlic and Parmesan Sauce, you can read Mama's history of cheese where you're lean all about parmesan, cheddar, and romano cheese. Great Moments in Cheese History will also have you scoring trivia points with your fellow cheese aficionados. At Mama's Cucina, there's something for everyone, even the bambini. Click on Mama's Activities for Kids, and print out 8.5 x 11" placements for coloring or discover Mama's favorite things to do with kids on a rainy day. If you want to learn how to speak Italian, you can download Real Audio sound bites to practice speaking Italian words and phrases. You can also read or write in your favorite dinner anecdote, play the "Go Mama Go" video game, or enter to win free groceries. Long on information and short on promotion, this entertaining site makes you want to follow Mama's advice. So go ahead and "Mangia bene, eh!".
