Review by Debbie Mazo

With more travelers than ever navigating America's highways, it's still hard to make each driving trip a great eating experience. Before you take the next exit for some greasy spoon fare, point and click the flashing neon sign at Eat Here—a site dedicated to the best of roadside dining. In an age of fast food venues and family restaurant chains, Eat Here lets you in on the dining secrets of the road with an interactive celebration of popular roadside spots in the United States and Canada.

Hosted by Kathy and Greg Nickerson, this online travelers' guide to food on the road is packed with all sorts of food adventures from home-cooking meals to pub grub. Here you can explore such treasures as the Jamaican Jerk Chicken Sandwich at Flamingo Joe's Grill in Panama City, Florida or the chicken-fried steak at Threadgrill's Restaurant in Austin, Texas. Relying mostly on contributions form seasoned travelers, each nominated stop comes with all the information you need to cruise right up to the front door from the best exit to the closest highway. A description of the type of meals served, price ranges, and links to the restaurant's site is included with each entry. To nominate your favorite eating spot, just fill out the Online Nomination Form.

When you arrive at your destination, keep the spirit of the road alive by trying out some of the roadside recipes listed in Road Food Recipes. This link serves up all kinds of authentic recipes that have tempted generations of motorists from making an old fashioned ice cream soda complete with whipped cream and maraschino cherry to grilling up the perfect roadside burger. To stay awake at the wheel, check out the Roadside Stories for tall tales of life on the road from romantic encounters to celebrity sightings. Finally, if you need some food and travel information, click on the Blue Plate Special for a concise surfing guide to the best of food and travel sites on the Web. With generous helpings of fine cruising cuisine, this site is sure to help you get your kicks on Route 66.
